What’s the Hype About Going Green?

“Why is green important?” is one of the most frequent questions that we receive. Some people think about going green but have hesitation about using natural and organic products because of misinformation about green products. There is a large misconception (by consumers) that natural and organic products are inferior to those in the mainstream market. So, any health benefits of using green products are overshadowed by this inferiority myth, hindering consumers from going green and potentially improving their health.

This behavior is unfortunate because certain non-green ingredients are able to be absorbed into the blood stream, through the skin. Once in the blood, they are able to reach every organ and piece of tissue to cause damage. These ingredients are believed to be safe in the recommended dosage/usage; but, every body reacts differently when exposed. [Note: Green ingredients can also be absorbed but are more understood in their natural state than artificial ingredients.]

Studies have shown that frequently used ingredients in non-green products are now being identified as toxic. And, these ingredients may be negatively impacting consumer health. Here are the four health issues and some of their related physical impacts:

  1. Endocrine Disruption
    1. Tumor Development
    2. Developmental Disorders
    3. Birth Defects
  2. Thyroid Imbalance
    1. Heart Disease
    2. Infertility
    3. Obesity
  3. Disease/Defects
    1. Cancer
    2. Developmental
  4. Hormone Imbalance
    1. Hair Loss
    2. Abnormal Pap-smear Results
    3. Tumor Development

It is true that some green products perform differently than non-green products but that doesn’t mean that they are inferior. They’re just different. The best way to learn about green products is to use them. But, be sure to avoid any ingredients that trigger your allergies.
